I recently scanned this slide of UP SD40 3065 taken at Argo Yard in Seattle, WA 10-26-80. Not very remarkable it was just one of Union Pacific’s 123 SD40′s.built in 1966. The 3065 served UP for 22 years until it was retired in March 1988.

Over the years I have managed to acquire a number of locomotive number boards. Most of them are BN and nearly all I have a personal connection to, mainly I photographed the locomotive it came from before it was sold or scrapped.
UP between Sumner and Tacoma, WA
I had not really given much thought that the Union Pacific line from Tukwila to Tacoma, WA would be considered USA Railfanning but I guess that it should since it does not have a Blog of its own. As I have been spending more time exploring and photographing trains on the UP line I think it is a worth subject to write about.
Hathaway – Rosebud – Hathaway
This is the third installment of a trip I made to North Dakota in 2019. After leaving Forsyth, MT eastbound 8-4-19 I pulled off I-94 at Hathaway, MT to do a little exploring.
Hysham to Forsyth, MT 8-4-19
After leaving Custer, MT in the last update on my Montana/North Dakota trip I got back on I-94 and headed east towards Hysham where I would pick up on the ex-NP main line for the rest of the way to Forsyth.
Hysham is Milepost 151 (distance from Glendive, MT)
Pompeys Pillar to Custer, Montana 8-4-19
Back on September 1, 2019 I wrote an NP Perspectives Blog update about Day 1 at Billings, MT from a trip I took to North Dakota in August 2019.
Back to New Jersey – April 16, 2019 Day 2
Tuesday April 16, 2019 was the second day of the New Jersey trip and it was also my 64th birthday. The morning dawned sunny and bright and after leaving the motel I was making my way to Randolph, NJ to check out the overpass there. I wanted at least one down on shot this trip, I had checked the NJ Transit schedule and knew an eastbound would be due soon after I arrived. After parking nearby I went out onto the overpass. With the decent sun angle, fairly tight quarters and some clutter I opted to give it a shot.
Back to New Jersey – April 15, 2019 Day 1
I had been to New Jersey once. That was 2013 and the trip really did not go as planned. It was cloudy and I did a poor job of finding trains. With just two photos taken, I left for New York as I had pretty much given up the chance to get any decent photos that I would be happy within New Jersey. I have a personal goal of getting to as many different states as I can and photograph trains. But it seemed my chances for checking “The Garden State” off the list had failed.
