Back to New Jersey – April 16, 2019 Day 2

Tuesday April 16, 2019 was the second day of the New Jersey trip and it was also my 64th birthday.  The morning dawned sunny and bright and after leaving the motel I was making my way to Randolph, NJ to check out the overpass there.  I wanted at least one down on shot this trip,  I had checked the NJ Transit schedule and knew an eastbound would be due soon after I arrived.  After parking nearby I went out onto the overpass.  With the decent sun angle, fairly tight quarters and some clutter I opted to give it a shot.

Train 6628 soon approached at 0902 behind ALP-46 4622.

The next eastbound would be in a few hours so I headed back to Mount Tabor since I liked that area.  The train arrived at 1054 and it was one of the trains I had photographed the day before.  Here cab car 7047 is leading train 6636 into Mount Tabor.  Note that the other track has a MOW truck on it tending to the overhead lines.

NJT commuter coach 7552 was also photographed yesterday but from the opposite side.  The graphics are different.

And shoving on the rear was ALP-46 4645 with the salute to Military Veterans slogan.

With that train gone I scouted around for new locations and got lunch as well.  I headed to Morris Plains, NJ to check out that area and liked the eastbound shot from the former EL freight house platform.

Cab car 6059 led eastbound 6650 into Morris Plains at 2:52 PM.  The commuter train was all single level cars.

Shoving on the rear was NJT ALP-46 4603.  Note that the bottom stripe is missing most of the color bands.

A closer look at one end of the ALP46 and coach it is shoving on.

Waiting for the next train I photographed the former Erie Lackawanna freight house, now a model railroad club.  (it was closed while I was there)

At 3:31 PM I caught ALP-46 pulling into Morris Plains with ALP-46 4630 and train 6654 already slowing for it’s station stop.  It was about this time that the clouds began rolling in.

With it now overcast, I headed back to Mount Tabor for the remaining trains of the day I would see.  First was train 6635, a westbound out of New York City led by ALP-45DC 4500, one of 24 operated by NJT at 3:47 PM.

14) NJT 4500 W Mount Tabor, NJ 4-16-19

At 3:49 PM eastbound 6656 is approaching the station stop behind ALP-46 4629 and double deck cars.

And the last train photo of the New Jersey trip was this rear end roster of PL42AC 4028.on train 6658 at 4:22 PM at Mount Tabor, NJ.  Still not a fan of these Alstom built locomotives but at least to me they almost resemble an EMD F45 from the rear.   (too long for an F40PH)

17) NJT 4028r Mount Tabor, NJ 4-16-19

Though I did not see or photograph any of the GP40PH-2′s I am still happy with the results of this New Jersey trip.  It most certainly went a LOT better than the first time in 2013.
