Gordon Lightfoot – remembered

Straying just a bit from the USA Railfanning theme here to mention the passing of legendary Canadian folk singer Gordon Lightfoot (1938-2023) who passed away at age 84 in Toronto, Ontario Canada this past Monday May 1, 2023.

His life is documented well here on Wikipedia:

Normally I do not post the passing of celebrites on my Blogs but Gordon Lightfoot was certainly someone special and deserving of being remembered.  Lightfoot had many hit songs including the beautiful Canadian Railroad Trilogy which was a favorite among many Canadians as well as railfans from around the world.  Makes me so glad I photographed the Canadian railways.

My favorite songs were “Dream Street Rose, “The Circle is small” and “Carefree Highway”.  But one his biggest hits was probably “the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald”  When i think of Canada I naturally think of Gordon Lightfoot who was born in Orillia, Ontario in 1938.

My biggest regret so far has been never getting to see Gordon Lightfoot perform in concert.  Gordon Lightfoot may be gone but his music will live on forever.
